Q: What kind of martial arts is taught at WLMA and Amazon Nation?
A: We work primarily on Jeet Kune Do, which is the style created by Master Bruce Lee in 1967. It leans heavily on methods from Wing Chun Kung Fu. Master Lee wanted to create a method of self defense that was always flowing, always changing and not static and 'dead' (as he called it). Jeet Kune Do incorporates not only the best and most effective ideas from Wing Chun, but also takes in concepts from boxing, fencing, street fighting, pressure point fighting (Chin Na) and any and all things from other martial arts that may be effective. The result is a dynamic martial art that is always exciting to watch and learn.

Q: Is Jeet Kune Do mixed martial arts then?
A: No. JKD is not cage fighting, and those who will tell you otherwise have forgotten it's roots. True Martial Arts is about self discovery and self improvement, not whether or not you can beat somebody else to a pulp.

Q: Is this a traditional martial arts school?
A: No, this is a Self Defense and Empowerment Center. The techniques that are taught are taken from four major marital arts disciplines and blended with street fighting and other methods to create a Self Defense program. Traditional schools focus on one tradition (i.e. Tang Soo Do, Judo or other methods).

Q: Is it really possible to learn these things over the internet?
A: Yes! Students will receive both still picture and video instruction via email attachments. These images will be downloaded to the student's computer, and allow the student to practice at her own pace. Students have access to the instructor via email and postal service. Learning these skills in the privacy and comfort of your own home when it's convenient for you is the wave of the future. No more trying to find a baby sitter.. no more hassle with finding a parking place.. no more expensive sign up fees and contracts that keep you paying if you decide to stop taking. Convenience all the way around!

Q: Will I earn belt rankings?
A: Yes! Students have the same opportunity to advance as others in other martial arts schools. Every two months the student will "Test" by submitting a video tape to the instructor by mail (students who live in the Peace Valley Region of British Columbia, Canada can test in person). Belts and certificates are awarded to all who pass the tests. Certificates of Special Achievement are awarded periodically at the Instructor's discretion.

Q: How much is tuition?
A: Tuition is as follows:

• Individual - $50.00 Canadian funds per month


• Double (two people signing up at the same time, taking class together) - $45.00 CAN per month per person


• Family (up to four people taking class at the same time, having joined and signed up at the same time) - $130.00 CAN per month for the group


• Local students who wish to take more than one class per week can schedule extra classes at a $5.00 per class drop in fee.

Due to the ever changing international exchange rate for currency, it's imperative that a constant fee be employed, and as local students are charged this amount, so are the Internet Students.

Students may pay through paypal or money order. Students from outside Canada must pay through paypal. In exchange for this I will receive the materials needed to advance in the program. Fees are collected before each Rank Testing and initial membership fees must be accepted before any materials are sent to me.

When a student has proven themselves dedicated and wishes to continue instruction past Green Belt status they are given the option of paying monthly. This, of course, is $50.00 per month.

These fees are not going to change or increase any time in the near future.

Q: What do I get when I join Amazon Nation?
A: You get a Certificate of Membership, instructional pictures and videos and access to the Instructor anytime you wish via email. This means you can ask as many questions as you need to so that your program is created JUST FOR YOU! No two programs will be the same, because no two students are the same. We each have strengths and weaknesses. Amazon Nation will help you develop your strengths and downplay your weaknesses. You also get belts and certificates of rank when you pass your tests. Down the line we will have patches and other merchandise available exclusively to Amazon Nation members.

Q: Is this just about fighting?
A: Not at all. Amazon Nation is created for women by a woman. It's not only to help women learn useful and life saving self defense skills, but fosters a feeling of Pride in accomplishment and helps us bond as women through identifying with the Ancient Amazon. This is not Role Play, this is real.

Q: Will I be able to meet others who belong to Amazon Nation?
A: Yes! An email group has been set up for those who wish to interact with others. That's part of our strength...the ability to work together and learn from one another. It helps to foster out feeling of support and camaraderie.
