Xena Lorber Biography

Xena Kicking Horse Lorber is the Founder and Head Instructor (Sifu) of Amazon Nation. She holds three high ranking Black Belts in three Traditional Martial Arts...Tang Soo Do (4th Dan), Jeet Kune Do (3rd Dan) and Tae Kwon Do (3rd Dan). She has studied the fighting arts since she was a small child (in fact she remembers her father teaching her sword drills at the age of five years). She has put many years into learning different fighting styles and different forms of self defense. It's through blending all of this learning that she has come to create the System that is taught in Amazon Nation.

"I created Amazon Nation to be the 'anti-Traditional martial art'." she says. "Through all my years of being involved with "traditional" Schools I came away with a very bad taste in my mouth. All they seem interested in doing these days is winning trophies and talking about how much better their Style is than everybody else's. The ego's in a lot of cases are just insane. I want my site, and my System, to be beyond that...that's why the Amazon Nation takes useful parts from many different fighting sources (including Street Fighting) and blends them into a useable system that will be of use in REAL situations...not just the Kwoon and not just in a tournament. Every Traditional Martial Art has it's strengths and weaknesses, no one school is 'the best'. I prefer to work with and learn from my fellow martial artists, not put them down or slip down to the level of 'my school is better than your school'. I find that attitude so unprofessional and unenlightened."

That being said, she is quick to point out that she has nothing but respect for any Martial Artist that practices a pure form and exhibits dedication to his/her System. She has seen good things come out of most Schools she has been involved with over the years. But she is very adamant that Amazon Nation not be confused with a Traditional Martial Art like Kung Fu or Tae Kwon Do.

"This is Self Defense, NOT an 'art'." she explains. "There is a big difference."

"One of the things I'm most proud of about this System I've created is the comments I get from my students about how much better they feel about themselves, how much more confident in their own skin they feel...THAT'S what it's all about. Improving yourself and improving your skills. Never stop learning, never stop growing and you will stay young in your heart and mind until you die."

Xena currently resides in British Columbia, Canada with her life mate and her furkids and is excited about every morning she wakes up.
